Allen's cedar plank salmon. This Cedar Plank Salmon, Butter Sauce, Cracked Egg and Capers recipe from Northcote's Lisa Goodwin-Allen is a really beautiful dish. The fish is flavoured by the cedar plank and is complemented by the gorgeous butter sauce. One to make when you want to impress!
Salmon is so versatile it can be served with just about any side dish. I love to serve it with Roasted Vegetables, or French Green Beans, with Mashed Potatoes, or Easy Rice Pilaf! Also, I think make sure to plank it--I think the cedar adds to the flavor balance. You can have Allen's cedar plank salmon using 6 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you cook it.
Ingredients of Allen's cedar plank salmon
- You need 1 lb of salmon filet.
- You need 1 tbsp of fresh lemon zest.
- You need 1 tbsp of lemon pepper.
- You need 3 tbsp of melted butter.
- You need 1 of cedar plank.
- It's 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice.
Next time, I might reduce the sugar--salmon as a fish doesn't generally need it. This is my go-to recipe for planking, and I think suits NW caught wild steelhead salmon very well. Instead of grilling directly on the grates, I'm grilling on a cedar plank. The cedar cooks the fish beautifully and gives it a wonderful smoky flavor.
Allen's cedar plank salmon step by step
- Preheat grill to 400 (I did mine on the Big Green Egg) I also used oak but you don't have to the cedar plank puts flavor into the fish..
- Have the cedar planks presoaked in salt water for at least a half hour.
- Rub the lemon zest and lemon pepper over the salmon..
- Mix the melted butter with the lemon juice and pour over the salmon and let it marinate in the fridge for a half hour while you get the grill ready..
- Put the salmon on the plank and place on the grill. Cook fish for 15 to 20 minutes and take off of the grill..
- Save the plank for future cooks..
- I served my fish with white rice and sauteed asparagus. Enjoy!.
Cedar planks are an ideal way to grill salmon and one of the most popular methods to cook this type of fish on the grill. The planks provide a barrier for the fish and allows the grill to essentially bake the salmon. The smoke that comes from the cedar gives the salmon nice infusion of smoke flavour. Prepared with natural red cedar, planked salmon is a method that produces a wonderful aroma, delicate texture and rich smoky flavor. Place planks over the cooler section of the center of the grill, turning the thickest sections of the salmon closest to the fire.
